New IFM Dill Award Recipient

The Dill Award is given by Interfaith Ministry in memory of Dr. Lawrence Dill. He was one of the founding members and past board chairman of Interfaith.  This award is presented to a member of Interfaith who has shown the same dedication, leadership, and willingness to serve as exemplified by Dr. Dill and his wife Flo.

It is a great honor to have recently presented the Dill Award to David Wall. David has served as Interfaith’s Emergency Assistance Director for almost ten years and is now retiring.

David came to Interfaith Ministries following a successful career in the banking and lending industry. This experience prepared him to pass along valuable information to staff and clients as the Emergency Assistance Director.  Not only would David assess the client’s needs and distribute financial aid to our clients, he would pass along skills and knowledge to help permanently improve their lives.

David assisted individuals and families with utility bills, rent, personal identification, locating both temporary and permanent housing, in-house homelenssness programs, bus tickets, transportation costs, and many other one-time emergency expenses that life can unexpectedly throw your way. The personal budgeting techniques he provided helped clients make permanent improvements towards financial independence.

Interfaith is extremely grateful to David Wall and his willingness to be of service to our agency and our clients over the past ten years. Our clients were asked to give their thoughts about David and the assistance he provided.  Many of these stories were shared at a recent community reception honoring David.

One client seemed to sum up the best of David’s help by saying, "I live on the streets of Anniston.  Sometimes I have a room to stay in, sometimes I sleep behind the bushes. Every weekday morning, I come to Interfaith Ministry and get a cup of coffee and a snack. Sometimes David will give me a blanket if I need a new one or clothes.  Sometimes he gives me a trolley pass to get to the doctor’s office. I know he is there for me and I know someone cares for me.”

David showed his compassion with this client and many others.

Although David is retiring he has no plans to slow down. He has some household projects awaiting him and he is looking forward to working in his one-acre garden. He may continue volunteering in the future to advise clients on making and maintaining a personal budget. His great passion is helping others learn how to handle personal finances in order to break the cycle of poverty. We hope he continues on this mission.

David’s presence and ideas will be missed at Interfaith, however we know his dedication will continue to influence and move our wonderful staff here now!  Interfaith Ministry and our clients in Anniston wish him all the best in his retirement!
